On behalf of the board, I would like to welcome you to The Ian Tucker Foundation website.
The Ian Tucker Foundation was established in 2001 to celebrate the life of Ian Tucker by raising awareness of
sports-related brain injuries and supporting institutions that work to prevent and understand the effects of such
injuries.
With over 14% of sports-related injuries in Australia affecting the head and brain, helping to reduce the incidence
of these injuries and creating more avenues of treating these injuries is very important to us. The Foundation will
explore issues such as the treatment of concussion, structural elements of sport that may increase the likelihood of
brain-related injuries and overall safety in sport, especially at the junior levels.
The Foundation will create opportunities to raise awareness of, and make financial contributions to, sport-related
brain injuries. The first of which will be a dinner event on October 27th, marking the fifth anniversary of Ian's
accident.
Each year the Foundation will evaluate opportunities where our financial contribution may help to make a significant
impact in the prevention of sports-related brain injuries and research into ways of treating such injuries. Examples
of potential recipients include:
- Institutions examining the cause and effect of brain injuries in sport
- Research into ways to prevent sports-related brain injuries
- Donations to complimentary public funds that work in similar ways to the Foundation, by raising awareness of the
harms that may result from concussion in contact sports, and which work actively to prevent potentially fatal incidents
in sport.
With experienced and trustworthy Patrons and a passionate and personally committed Board, we have the essential
elements necessary to create a successful and effective charitable organization. We welcome your comments and
thoughts and encourage you to join us as we not only "tackle" a good cause but remember a good mate as well.
Justin Greiner
