The mission of the Foundation is to celebrate the life of Ian Tucker by raising awareness of sports-related brain
injuries and supporting institutions that work to prevent and understand the effects of such injuries.
Ian Tucker (1973 - 1996) was a well-accomplished individual who, in his 24 years, made a life out of achievement.
A graduate of St Ignatius' College, Riverview, Ian stroked the first VIII and was a member of the 1st XV.
Always passionate and driven, Ian's ambition was to play rugby for Australia and after representing his state and
country at the junior levels (U-19,U21), Ian went on to study at Oxford University where he continued his rugby
career, playing in the senior team.
Ironically, Ian's life was cut short playing rugby when he made a tackle that resulted in an injury to his brain
from which he did not recover.
Ian Tucker was a disciplined individual, who brought a positive attitude to everything he did and for whom achieving
was a lifelong passion. The Foundation is based on these attributes.
The Foundation will raise money each year for recipients that the Board considers to embody the spirit of the
foundation. Examples of potential recipients include:
- Institutions examining the cause and effect of brain injuries in sport
- Research into ways to prevent sports-related brain injuries
- Donations to complementary public funds that work in similar ways to the Foundation, by raising awareness of the
harms that may result from concussion in contact sports, and which work actively to prevent potentially fatal incidents
in sport
